Our next chapter of creating hope for Buffalonians in need

The Project

The former Public School 57, located behind our main headquarters, has sat vacant for 15 years. Our agency is turning this building back into an asset for our community by creating a multipurpose facility. The newly renovated “Hope House” will include 27 supportive, affordable apartments and a new space for our Matt Urban Hope Center, which has been serving East Side residents in need for the past 10 years. Construction of this $__M project is fully funded and has commenced, with an anticipated completion date of August 2019.

The Building Hope Capital Campaign will get us across the finish line, providing the funds necessary to outfit the newly renovated spaces so we can get started immediately on serving our community. Your contributions will help us furnish our 27 supportive housing units, upgrade the Hope Center’s new home and equip our commercial kitchen with everything it needs to help people train for new employment.

The Apartments

Providing our clients with safe, quality, affordable housing is integral to the work we do. Hope House will have 27 apartments – a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom units – that will serve homeless women and women with children. This building will be a critical housing resource for our women’s shelter, where clients in the rapid rehousing program can be placed and provided with in-house case management to help them make the transition to self-sufficiency.

Adopt a Room

Funds needed: $125,000 for 27 rooms

Donors who would like to help us create a warm, comfortable space for our clients to call home can sponsor one of the 27 apartments at Hope House.

The Hope Center

For the past 10 years, the Matt Urban Hope Center has been a one-stop resource center for low-income residents to receive assistance with everything from housing placement to benefits screening, financial wellness education, computer classes, job training, clothing donations, and personal essentials and food pantries. Our Hope Center is also home to our Homeless Outreach team, which works tirelessly to connect homeless individuals living on the street with housing, food, clothing and healthcare. Our Urban Diner, a collaboration with Friends of the Night People, serves free hot meals restaurant-style on weekdays to members of our community in need.

Sponsor the Hope Center's Next Chapter

funds needed: $125,000

With a growing list of programs and services, our Hope Center has outgrown its current space at 385 Paderewski Drive. The new space at Hope House will provide upgraded spaces for our staff offices, clothing boutique, personal essentials pantry, and the Urban Diner.

Putting Hope to Work

Our HopeWorks program was created to provide low barrier and practical job training services to “hard to serve” households, helping them to gain stable employment and improve their quality of life. We provide supports including on-the-job coaching, educational workshops, resume preparation, mock interviewing, mentoring, job search assistance, and a wide network of referral partnerships. The Commercial Kitchen at Hope House will provide an exciting new opportunity for clients in our HopeWorks program.

The Commercial Kitchen

funds needed: $250,000

The main floor at Hope House will also include a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, which will serve multiple purposes. The space will be utilized to prepare meals for the Urban Diner.  It will also provide a space for clients enrolled in our HopeWorks job training program to learn the skills required to pursue employment in the hospitality industry. In the future, we envision the commercial kitchen being linked to an urban garden, where food grown on site can be prepared, marketed and sold by our clients.
