Home is where we have dignity. Creating this sense of dignity is key to the mission of The Matt Urban Center. Through each of our human services programs, we work to provide and reinforce a sense of home for members of our community.

Our Home for the Holidays campaign is a call for our supporters in the community to help us continue providing these resources to offer a sense of home to those in need. To take those feelings of joy and gratitude in celebrating what we have, and to pay it forward by ensuring that every Buffalonian has a place to call home.

Santas of Swig Returns to Buffalo Iron Works

The 9th Annual “Santas of Swig” homebrewing competition will take place on Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Buffalo Iron Works. Ticketed guests will have the chance to sample up to 20 different beers and cast their vote for the winner. The event also features basket raffles and a toy collection drive benefiting youth in the Matt Urban Human Services Center’s programs. A donation of a new unwrapped toy will earn the donor $10 in raffle tickets, with all proceeds going to support the agency’s youth programs.

More information about the event can be found on Facebook, and tickets for the event are sold at the door for $20. “Homebrewing is all about community. This event is a way for the brewers to give back to the communities which we come from,” said the Sultans of Swig Homebrew Club. “We are excited to continue this annual tradition.” The club also welcomes all who are interested to visit www.sultansofswig.com.

Cookies for a Cause

We’re so excited for the Cookies for a Cause event this year! Event organizer, Rebecca Decker goes above and beyond, and we can’t thank her enough for all her efforts in organizing this event for its 10th year! See you there! 1. All boxes of cookies will be pre-order only and include 12 cookies for $15, pickup on Saturday December 14th from 2-5pm at Flying Bison Brewing.

2. If you would like our SPECIAL 10th year DELUXE assortment of every cookie variety – approximately 2-3 dozen – Please select Deluxe Assortment
2. No-contact delivery is available for $10 – within a 5 mile radius of downtown Buffalo. Delivery will be on Saturday December 14th from 12-4pm.
3. No special orders or allergy specific orders can be made – all cookies are produced with cross contact with common allergens.

On the Mat for Matt Urban: Grappling Roll- A-Thon

The Matt Urban Human Services Center is proud to partner with Integrity Martial Arts, owned Jeff Denz, for a unique and exciting fundraising event: “On the Mat for Matt Urban”, a roll-a-thon to support vital programs for Buffalo’s most vulnerable populations. This event is part of the Matt Urban Center’s “Home for the Holidays” campaign, an annual effort to raise funds for the center’s essential human services programs.

Event Details:

Date: November 23, 2024

Time: 10am – 1pm

Location: Integrity Martial Arts, 1333 Strad Avenue, North Tonawanda, NY

Tickets: $20 to grapple, suggested donation of $10 for spectators

At “On the Mat for Matt Urban”, grappling practitioners of all skill levels are invited to hit the mats for a great cause. The roll-a-thon will feature about 30 continuous rounds of sparring throughout the duration of the event. Participants will compete for prizes and the Matt Urban Human Services Center’s executive director, Ryan Undercoffer, will attempt to spar for as many rounds as possible.
